Face to Face Project

In 2011 Sarah was commissioned to do a year long artist in residency in Springvale, Victoria Australia. The objective of the residency was to run creative workshops to help empower young primary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds (many of them recently arrived migrants and refugees) to share their stories through comics. They talk about bullying, culture, belonging, identity, friendship, racism, religion and wii games.

The project began with comic drawing workshops with children from three local schools. This lead onto the interviews which make up the animated film Face to Face: Children's Stories and all the outcomes from the project were exhibited in the Springvale Historical Society Gallery. This project was supported by The Face to Face Project and The City of Greater Dandenong Council with Funding from Arts About Us and VicHealth as part of Springvale Stories. The animated film Face to Face: Children's Stories went on to win the People's Choice Award in the Australian Shorts section of the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival at ACMI, Melbourne in 2012.
